Corporate Social Responsibility

At the heart of CEF’s culture lies an uncompromising commitment to uplifting and developing South African society, especially among previously disadvantaged communities. We recognize that we have a transformative role to play in giving everyone in our country the opportunities to make the most of their talents and achieve a decent standard of living.

Our vision for South Africa goes well beyond the cheque book. With the emphasis on sustainability, our most urgent priority is to ensure that our CSI policy delivers long-term, tangible benefits to people at grassroots level. Ultimately, we measure the returns on our community investment according to the sense of hope, pride and ownership it fosters among communities.

To maximize returns on our community investment, we structure and target our Community Affairs policy around four core areas:

1. Early Childhood and Basic Education
Partner with educational authorities on programmes to benefit disadvantaged learners and under-resourced communities. Preference will be given to rural schools and communities. Support will only be confined to these areas:

  • Infrastructure improvements (e.g. renovating school building);
  • Equipment to be used for educational purposes (e.g. desks, computers, sport equipment);
  • School garments like uniforms and shoes;
  • Skill development and training for educators (e.g. technology teaching for teachers); and
  • Educational support programmes in schools (e.g. Learning and teaching of STEM subjects).

2. Capacity building and skills development for economic benefits:
Partner with public benefit organisations who aims to build skills and capacity in communities to foster economic development. Preference will be given to projects in the energy sector, projects that benefit rural or underserviced areas, projects that benefit youth, gender equity and equality initiatives or people with disabilities.

3. Support for energy security and environmental astuteness:
Support, implement or fund community programmes and initiatives that support energy security in general. This includes programmes aimed at energy saving, energy efficiency, environment protection and conservation.

4. Health and Wellness:
Partner with public benefit organisations or communities that require assistance with community healthcare and wellness programmes and health equipment in under-resourced public facilities.
